Fellow on Justice for Latino Communities
The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan (ACLU-MI) is seeking recent law graduates, judicial law clerks, deferred associates or other qualified applicants for a fellowship involving litigation and advocacy that focuses on immigration and other legal issues that affect Latino communities. The fellow will help expand the ACLU-MI’s immigration docket, respond to new legal issues flowing from the President’s executive order on immigration, and address such issues as racial profiling of Latinos by law enforcement, bilingual education, disparate school discipline, and access to education and government services for non-citizens.
With over twenty full-time staff members, the ACLU-MI is one of the largest affiliates of the American Civil Liberties Union and a leading civil rights organization within the state. We litigate groundbreaking, high impact, high profile cases addressing a wide range of constitutional issues, including: freedom of speech and religion, police misconduct, voting rights, right to counsel and due process, privacy rights, poverty, criminal justice reform, reproductive freedom, education reform, and the rights of people of color, women, LGBT persons, immigrants and prisoners.
As part of the ACLU of Michigan’s mission to increase access and opportunity for those individuals and groups who have historically been under-represented and underserved, the ACLU of Michigan is committed to having a diverse workplace. People of color, women, LGBT persons and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
